Holiday card designs

The museum shop at Art Institute of Chicago is having a call for entries for holiday card designs. This past few weeks, I've been working on some illustrations, and I finally finished all three of them today! I'm really excited about these. They're some of my favorite work I've done to date, or maybe I'm just too obsessively in love with them at the moment. Who knows?

I got them printed on the Service Bureau inkjet printers tonight, and they look AMAZING. (Michael's awesome!) They look so much better printed than they do on screen. Inkjet is officially my new favorite thing. Can't wait until I have the money to buy own little printer! Anyway, I'm mailing the prints out to the museum tomorrow morning, along with a CD with all the digital files in case they need them.

I really hope they get chosen! Each chosen design receives a flat fee of $1000! That's more than I could ever make screenprinting them... (And much less work, might I add.) I guess even if they don't choose any of my designs, I'd be fine with just inkjet printing them and selling them as greeting cards in the Holiday Art Sale. Still, please wish me the best of luck!

This is what you've really been waiting for: PICTURES!

Bat inspiration...

So, after the tiger and the narwhal prints, land and sea mammals respectively, I was thinking of printing an "air" mammal, if that makes any sense. What else but bats, right? I've been thinking about how I want to draw the bat for my next print... And I think I've just found my inspiration!

These are called Honduran White Bats. I'm not sure if I've ever seen anything so cute!

Look at those little faces! BAWWWW!

New website, new blog, new everything!

So I finally finished the Flash version of the Milkbunnie website that I've been slaving over all summer long, and it's gone live! :D I've added some of the work I've been doing this past year, and took out some I didn't feel was all that great. There's definitely more art coming, though. I have a lot of screenprinting to do in the next two months, and a lot of pictures to take of the ones I've already finished!

Holiday Art Sale is coming up... I'm excited, but nervous. I never seem to have enough time to churn out all the stuff I want to have for the sale. I always plan all this stuff to make, and only end up finishing half of them. Sigh. But here's a sneak peek at the latest print I finished. It's a terrible photo from my cell phone, sorry!

The photo really does it no justice. The colors are super vibrant and fun. I can't wait to show it off in person! It's actually not really finished. I was planning to make one more layer, but we'll see whether or not I actually do...

Anyway, I'm very proud of and excited about the new website. I'm hoping to keep it better up-to-date, instead of just adding artwork once a year, like I'd been doing, hehe. But I figured this blog would be a good way to keep everyone posted on what I'm working on, what inspires me, and so on. I'm a pretty lazy blogger though, so let's hope I can keep it up.

I need to finish setting up an Etsy shop now... I'd really like to be able to sell some prints online throughout the year instead of only during the school art sales. (Also, I'm graduating soon, so I won't be able to do art sales here anymore! Tear!) I also want to offer giclée prints of my work, instead of only screenprints. As much as I love screenprints, I'm just not as prolific as I'd like to be. (Maybe someday when I get my own printing studio... Sigh, a girl can dream!)

Well, time to haul myself downtown and get busy screenprinting. I'm working on a narwhal this weekend! I can't wait to finish printing him. He's probably my favorite print I've done of all time! Giddy!
